So much comedy in Lisbon and Dragos Cristian came to town
Wow soooooooo much has happened! I’m going to throw it all into one post but this is a really really dope update. So it all started with ANOTHER showcase show. Where Dragos Cristian - the Hungry Hungry Dragon came to town. I was on a podcast. New comedy shows are popping up in Lisbon. And even more! My show is going on the road.
So I opened another showcase show for two other amazing comedians! Hugo Rosa and Dragos Cristian. It was great, and it went really well compared to the previous two shows I did.
This Dragos guy. What a fucking cool ass dude. He’s been a professional comedian for like a year now, but he’s been doing comedy for four years I think? His set is fantastic. So well refined. He and Hugo had the whole room rolling that night.
Having professional comedians rolling through here and talking to them about their experiences and how they go about their business is awesome. Dragos has his shit together and that dude is gonna do really dope stuff. Oh and he invited me on his podcast. My first podcast. To talk about comedy. How fuckin cool is that? You can watch it here.
I basically said “yeah” a lot, tried for 15 minutes to figure out what I wanna do with my hands, and rocked back and forth endlessly like I was having a panic attack. I was just waaay too high tho. I need to chill with the weed before I do things where I’m supposed to like… talk. Like a podcast. Oh well.
This is the wild part: I’ve done three shows in three weeks. Which is much higher than my one show per month average. How exciting! I guess I’m supposed to take a break right? NOPE! THERE WAS ANOTHER SHOW THE FOLLOWING WEEK. A new events company in Lisbon called O Zebras has started putting on some open mic shows in Portuguese, and for the past couple months, they’ve been doing it in English now too. I wasn’t able to make the last shows, but things worked out this time.
The host for the show was an American guy named Ben. I was surprised to see an American hosting a comedy show in Lisbon, but we’re living in strange times as it is. He ran the show really well. I went up and did that thing. I might be feeling myself too much here but it was probably one of my best performances. I felt really good. It flowed really well. I wasn’t the only one feelin it tho! I got some good reviews y’all lemme soak this up a bit.
After the show, Ben told me he really enjoyed my set and invited me to perform at a show he’ll be headlining at the end of the month. Boom! Already got another show booked. Met some really great people. Had some good shows. I’m feeling this comedy thing more. What more could I possibly ask for? How about taking this show on the road?
ON TOP OF ALL THAT AMESOMESAUCE - some dude reached out to me on instagram (@laughatthatguy) asking if I would be in Porto in June. He read my blog and liked the story developing here. I said yeah I’ll probably go there to visit friends, but I’m not aware of any English comedy shows where I could perform. And he was like dude, I’m doing a couple of shows in June. Do you want to come to perform? Fuck yeah, I do. THIS SHOW IS GOING ON THE ROAD BABY. Maybe. We’ll see. Still waiting on details. But it’s pretty exciting to have these offers popping up. English comedy isn’t just in Lisbon apparently. English comedy is popping up in Porto too. And I’m happy as fuck to be part of all this.
