Standup comedy is dope - still
This is all very dope. Like really. Have you read this blog? That’s fine. Most of it is garbage. But it does track going from barely having the opportunity to perform once a month, to hosting comedy nights, to co-running a well known comedy club, to putting on my own comedy events as a promoter. And guess what? They’re fun. People fucking like them.
They come back again for some more of that shit. People are hooked on em. And it’s not me - it’s everything. It’s how good the comedians here have become. It’s the dope venues we get to work with. I end up hosting more often than I get to perform, which isn’t ideal. It is what it is tho. Just has to be that way for now. But we have a good time.
Like - really good time. The jams especially. I fucking love the jams. There’s no expectations whatsoever. We convince random people to go up and start performing and some of them do it well. I was just at 86 cocktail bar the other day and there was this bartender from Amsterdam visiting. And apparently he knew some guy that decided to grab the mic on the spot at one of our jams while he was traveling. And from what I heard he started to look for more opportunities when he got back to Amsterdam. Boom. We just created a comedian right there. The jam nutured him. Fed him. Clothed him. Until he was ready to be birthed from the jams womb. A brand new comedian in the world. And that happened a few times already, and it feels very cool to get people hooked on this shit. I mean it’s not cocaine - sure. I could probably actually live off doing that. But they’re still hooked. We’re making their brains release them feel good checmicals. It’s fuckin wireless hacking basically. And everyone can have their code cracked. Even Germans! No no, not the Enigma Code. I mean their funny… code.
There was a German guy at the last show. Motherfucker absolutely did not want to laugh. But I fucking got him. Fucking hacked that motherfucker with bluetooth 5G. I forget what I said but he started to lose it a bit. And I had everyone give the German guy a round of applause for doing his best. I’m the fuckin Alan Turing of comedy is what i’m trying to say. How fucked up is that shit they did to him? What was I talking about? RIGHT! Standup comedy is dope.
You know I used to worry about the shows. Like shit, I need to entertain people. Hoooooooow the fuck do I do that? I have the personality of paper. blank paper. But I figured it out. Like how Professor Utonium made the PowerPuff girls - it’s just been a lot of mistakes and accidents to get to this state. But adding the right ammounts of dirty, sarcastic, weird, and surprising behavior turns out to be a good cocktail for comedy show host. At least here in Lisbon. sip on that. I don’t worry as much any more. Show day all I think about is how dope it’s going to be. I don’t care who shows up, or how many people there are. We’re going to find a way to make their fucking day.
Remember Yanna(Janna?), the American girl where me and like six other comedians put on a show just for her cause nobody else showed up? That shit happened back in December. Not long ago at all. She somehow found out about the jams and came to see the last Jam. Like how much of a bigger endorsement can you get? You do a whole show for a single person, and they end up coming back to the next joint. And thankfully a lot more people came to that one. And it’s not even about me. I’m a tiny part. I’m just the glue for the shows. I’m just the frame for that picture. It’s the comedians out here working.
I have a lot of confidence in the comedians here. There’s a lot of entertaining people that have been grinding out here to be funny. And #1 they make the shows work. I feel confident putting these people out there on a stage. A lot of hard working people out here. I’m not gonna even name names cause there’s too many of them. But it feels good as shit to see so many of the comedians go from fucking around to killing it and feeling confident as well. You can tell when someone has hit that gear and they’re going up there on the mic with the attitude of “I got this shit” and it’s clicked for them. And when you get enough people like that you can make a show flow real well. It’s all about energy, and everyone works it a bit differently, but the end result is everyone having a good time. And they’re gonna want those vibes. They’re gonnna resonate with that energy. They’re gonna leave that show wanting more, and they’ll be back to get that fix. Bluetooth 4K mind hax for the feel goods.
Making people laugh is fun. Standup comedy is dope. Gimme a fucking mic and let me go to work.
